TV & Audio Equipment
ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
General Information:
--- We have a 31" flat-screen TV serviced by DirecTV. Note: We also hacve a ROKU stick for your use at INPUT 5.
--- There are several clearly marked remotes:
-- DirecTV (for ON/OFF, TV volume/mute, channel selection, TV Guide, etc.)
-- ROKU (at input HDMI 5)
-- SHARP (for the "TV"; this is the only remote with which Input channel can be changed)
-- SAMSUNG (for surround system and "DVD" player)
-- DAEWOO (for "2nd DVD" player)
TV: We provide DirecTV (and a ROKU device for your own programming).
This description is for DirecTV only. (If you want to use ROKU, you will likely know how it works. Use Input 5 for ROKU.
--- For DirecTV use power "ON" and "OFF" buttons on DirecTV remote (top left and right buttons on remote; they control TV and DirecTV box at the same time).
(Note: If no life in TV, then: use DirecTV remote and observe if large blue control light of DirecTV box is lit; then use SHARP remote to turn on TV);
--- If still no picture, check if the TV is set on "Input 4" (SHARP remote)
--- The main TV channel numbers are the same as in the Bay Area, in particular:
ABC=7, NBC=11, CBS=5, PBS=9, MSNBC=356, CNN=202, and many other channels.
Password - Purchase TV Programming:
We do not permit renters to buy DirecTV programming (it's simply too messy to unscramble who pays for what). But you are welcome to use your own TV programming using the ROKU stick.
Watch a DVD (DAEWOO player):
Use the "DAEWOO" remote; press the top center button to open the tray; insert the DVD; press the same button to close the tray; then use the "TV" remote and select "Input 2."
Watch a DVD (SAMSUNG player -- w/ surround sound):
Remove the ROKU device from Input 5 and plug an HDMI cable in its place ("Input 5"); the other end of this HDMI cable must be plugged into the SAMSUNG player. Use the "SAMSUNG"remote.
When done, at latest before you depart, revert to the ROKU device plugged into "Input 5."
Watch HDMI from your Laptop:
Remove the ROKU device from Input 5 and use HDMI port 5 for your HDMI cable to your laptop. Set TV to Input 5.
Please revert to the original cable settings when done (there is nothing more frustrating for the next guest than to find the system "not working").
Watch a VHS Cassette:
--- There is no remote for the VHS player -- operate it by hand. Use the "TV" remote and select "input TV." Then, using "VIEW MODE" on the "TV" remote, adjust the Aspect Ratio to optimize the picture size.
Problems:
Whatever the problem may be, it is likely NOT anywhere else with the cables in the back. DO NOT UNPLUG A CABLE AND PLUG IT BACK IN SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! (If this happened, and we cannot fix the problem ourselves before the next guest arrives, we will have to hire an expert to diagnose and undo your action, and the (substantial) cost will be taken from your security deposit).
==============================
STEREO SYSTEM:
--- Use the Samsung surround sound system. Setting TV to Input 4 helps. Note that some music CDs do not deliver sound to the surround speakers (on mezzanine) or the center speaker (on Samsung control unit).
--- Select [HTS]J5500W for pairing your source.
--- We are not set up to receive TV sound through the Stereo speakers, except when watching a DVD.
======================================
During the unlikely event of a POWER OUTAGE, the TV and sound system will continue to function uninterruptedly. They are powered by a back-up battery. Press HERE to learn more about this feature.
