FAQ — Casa de Luz - Alegria - Amor

Wireless Internet - Wifi

Free of charge to renting guests

This is a topic subject to frequent changes, and we can only give general information in this FAQ posting.

Our Internet system password will be given to you upon arrival.

Speeds are among the best available in Abadiania, but they are still rather slow when compared to U.S. and European standards. It is, however, plenty for normal emailing and web surfing activities, including zooming and limited streaming. There is no Ethernet cable connection available at Alegria or Amor, only WiFi.

We strongly recommend that you bring your smart phone, tablet, or laptop.  On your smart phone or tablet, make sure to engage the Airplane Mode and, following that, turn on WiFi. This way you will avoid incurring unwanted and uncontrollable air data charges, while being fully connected to the world via the Internet.  We recommend that you have a "Skype" (or similar) account and be versed in using it, so you can make inexpensive voice calls to anywhere in the world.

We have an Internet-based phone service (“Vonage”) at our home in Sunnyvale. When we travel to Brazil (or to any other destination), we take our phone (“Vonage”) device with us and connect it via Ethernet cable to our Internet system in Abadiania. We can then be reached, and call from, our U.S. home phone number via that device, wherever we may be in the world. We recommend such provisions to our renting guests.

If you are used to extensive streaming, we suggest you download the movies you want to see onto your device before you depart.

Telephone

We do not provide a local telephone service or TV at Alegria, Amor, and Casa de Luz.

We recommend that our renters bring their own cellular phones, for which they can inexpensively purchase a chip for local calls, if they so desire. Chips are available at various places in Abadiania.

Alternatively, or in addition, we recommend — as mentioned above — that renters bring their personal smart phone, tablet, or laptop computer equipped with Skype or a similar Internet-based telephoning capability with which can make inexpensive local, national and international calls.
