FAQ — Casa Pacis

Fireplace

Casa Pacis has a conventional open fireplace, one of the type that are no longer permitted for new construction but are grandfathered into existing buildings and are now highly attractive amenities in vacation rental homes.

For general fire safety and your own safety, please observe:

ONLY BURN COMMERCIAL WAX FIRE LOGS (such as “Duraflame” logs)
We recommend 3-hour Duraflame logs and provide one upon arrival.
More can be purchased in the supermarkets and hardware stores in nearby Gualala.

DO NOT BURN CONVENTIONAL WOOD FIRE LOGS

DO NOT BURN PAPER OR CARDBOARD OF ANY KIND, such as to start the fire, or to dispose of gift wrappings or packaging or pizza boxes

OPEN THE FLUE VENT (take a flash light and ascertain if it's in the open position);

MOVE FURNITURE AWAY from the heat of the fireplace.

DO NOT REMOVE ASHES or a partially burnt fire log when you depart; for reasons of fire safety, our housekeepers will do the fireplace cleanup.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEVER LEAVE AN ACTIVE FIRE IN THE FIREPLACE UNATTENDED.

ALWAYS KEEP THE WIRE-MESH IN PLACE.
(please treat it gently; excessive heat exposure has bent the mesh and made mobility in the track a bit awkward; this wire-mesh, when broken, cannot be replaced).
