FAQ — Casa Pacis

Fireplace

Casa Pacis has a conventional open fireplace, one of the type that are no longer permitted for new construction but are grandfathered into existing buildings and are now highly attractive amenities in vacation rental homes.

Please observe the following:

— For fire protection reasons, WE ONLY PERMIT THE USE OF COMMERCIAL WAX FIRE LOGS
Do NOT burn conventional wooden logs
We recommend to use 3-hour DURAFLAME logs and provide one to our renters upon arrival.
More can be purchased in the supermarkets and hardware stores in Gualala.

— Open the flue vent (take a flash light and ascertain by looking if it's in the open position);

DO NOT BURN PAPER OF ANY KIND, such as to start the fire in the fireplace, or to dispose of wrappings.

— Move furniture away from the heat of the fireplace.

DO NOT REMOVE ASHES or a partially burnt log when you depart;
for reasons of fire safety, our housekeepers will do the fireplace cleanup.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEVER LEAVE AN ACTIVE FIRE IN THE FIREPLACE UNATTENDED.

ALWAYS KEEP THE WIRE-MESH IN PLACE.
(please treat it gently; heat exposure bends the mesh and makes mobility in the track a bit awkward; this wire-mesh, when broken, cannot be replaced).
