Space Heating/Air Conditioning*
(1) Primary source** for space heating and air conditioning of Casa Pacis (in addition to passive solar heating) is a heat pump/AC unit (recessed in the wall above the sideboard). It can only be activated with a remote (white, in a holder/pocket on the bookshelf near the TV, see Photo 1). Confirm that it is at the desired setting (Heating or Cooling "Mode" and desired temperature) and then press the yellow power button. ***
(2) As secondary heat source, we have installed completely silent special wall heaters in each room. Operation of these heaters in the bedrooms is self-evident. The one in the living room (far corner, near the fireplace) can be operated remotely and has less intuitive manual setting details (Photo 2).****
(3) We also provide, we have high wattage electric baseboard heaters in the bedrooms. They work on individual room thermostats, keeping the individual room temperatures as dialed. Please note that it is natural for baseboard heaters to make some crackling noises***** which can be bothersome during the extreme silent nights you experience in a place like Casa Pacis, far away from any other manufactured sounds.

NOTES:
* Casa Pacis is an all-electric home, which is the environmentally most desirable option with regard to carbon footprint reduction. See also here for our research and implementation of solar PV technology.
** Set MODE to "HEAT" or “COOL” before turning ON the unit. Best choose a medium FAN speed setting. Then point the remote toward the wall-mounted unit and turn the unit on by pressing the yellow ON/OFF button. The louvres will open, and the temperature indicator will come on at the top right of the unit. Heating (or cooling) will start after about a minute. Adjust the temperature setting up or down to your liking. There is no need to ever use any of the other buttons of the remote.
*** Energy conservation conscientious guests may appreciate to know that the heat pump is 4 times more energy efficient than the other heating sources (baseboard heaters and wall heaters) that are all based on electric resistance heating.
**** Please conserve electric energy by turning the heaters down or off, rather than opening windows, when it gets too warm, and when you leave the house.
PLEASE TURN ALL (6) HEATERS OFF BEFORE YOU DEPART.
***** These noises are usually a 60-Hz hum of the heating element and/or some thermal expansion/contraction "crackling."
