Casa Pacis is an all-electric home, which is the environmentally most desirable option with regard to carbon footprint reduction. See also here for our research and implementation of solar PV technology.
====================================
Primary source for space heating and air conditioning of Casa Pacis -- in addition to passive solar heating -- is a heat pump/AC unit (recessed in the wall above the sideboard). It can only be activated with a remote (white, in a holder/pocket on the bookshelf near the TV). Confirm that it is at the desired setting* (Heating or Cooling "Mode" and desired temperature) and then press the yellow power button.
While this unit may well be all you ever need -- especially if you leave the doors to the other rooms open, we have electric baseboard heaters in the bedrooms. They work on individual room thermostats, keeping the individual room temperatures as dialed. It is natural for baseboard heaters to make some "noises" ** which are audible during the extreme silent nights you experience in a place like Casa Pacis, far away from any other man-made sounds.***
Please conserve electric energy by turning the heaters down or off, rather than opening windows, when it gets too warm, and when you leave the house.
EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE TURN ALL HEATERS OFF BEFORE YOU DEPART.

* Set to "HEAT" or “COOL” before turning on unit. Choose a medium FAN speed setting. Then point the remote toward the wall-mounted unit and press the yellow power button. The temperature indicator will then come on at the top right of the unit. Heating (or cooling) will start after about a minute. Adjust the temperature setting up or down to your liking. There is no need to ever use any of the other buttons of the remote.
** These noises are usually a 60-Hz hum of the heating element and/or some thermal expansion/contraction "cracking."
*** Additional fan-coil heaters, built into walls, have been disconnected.
